After launching the ROG Phone 3 last year, Asus is now gearing up to release the next iteration of the device very soon. Although some leaks have previously mentioned the rumored device, a live image of the next ROG Phone 5 has now surfaced online. Yes, not four, but ROG Phone 5!
This photo was shared by WHYLAB, an anonymous tipster on Weibo. Leaker states that this is allegedly “real machine photo” (read as a live image) of ROG Phone 4 and surprisingly, It has a number marked “05” on its back panel.. This means that the Taiwanese phone manufacturer may drop the number 4 in the series (eg OnePlus) and launch ROG Phone 5 instead.

Now, you might think that this is unusual but dropping number 4 matters to Asus. This is because, like other Asian countries, people in Taiwan consider the number 4 to be inauspicious (probably because the word pronunciation and death for 4 are the same in Chinese). As a result, after we released the OnePlus 3 and 3T, companies like OnePlus dropped 4G-Gen and jumped straight into OnePlus 5.
Therefore, there is a high probability that the next ROG phone may be called “ROG Phone 5” instead of “ROG Phone 4”.
Apart from this, we can see that the company has not made any major changes in the design of the smartphone compared to its previous iteration. However, the brand’s logo has moved from the center of the back panel to one of the lower corners of the device, which leakers say can serve as the game mode’s “one-click start button”.
Also, apart from the alleged name and design of the device, some key specs have also been leaked by a reliable source. So, according to those leaks, the upcoming ROG phone will come with 4/5 Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8GB RAM and 6,000mAh bigger battery which is also in ROG Phone 3. However, this time the battery Allegedly will support 65W chargeInstead of maxing out at 30W in the ROG Phone 3, this should result in faster charging time and better battery life for the device. It will have a 64MP primary camera and full-HD + AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh screen refresh rate.
