If you are wondering how to download Minecraft for PC, you have come to the right place. We’ll get you up and running faster than you can say “Creeper? Oh man! ”
There are two PC versions of Minecraft available for download: Minecraft Java Edition or Minecraft for Windows 10 (commonly known as Bedrock). There are notable differences between the two versions. Bedrock doesn’t have an updated combat system, but it does allow cross-play with Xbox One and mobile, and contains content that Java doesn’t. Meanwhile, Java only allows players to play with other Java players, but has more public servers and a better modding scene. If you’re not sure which one to choose, we recommend using Java, as it includes a free copy of Bedrock.
Ready to get creative? Read on for our easy steps on how to download Minecraft for PC.
1. Go to the Minecraft website
First, you’ll want to move on to Minecraft website. From there you should be greeted with a large photo of Steve and Alex overlooking a Minecraft world.
Look on the left side and there should be a green box that says “get Minecraft”. Click on it.
2. Which version of Minecraft is right for you?
By clicking on the button, you must now make a choice: which version of Minecraft do you want to download? The options here are computer, mobile, console, and more (yes, there are just as many versions of Minecraft!).
For this guide we want to click on the one marked “computer”.
3. Minecraft Java Edition or Minecraft Windows 10 (Bedrock)?
I know, we always choose which Minecraft we want! We’re almost done, however.
The next choice you need to make is which version you want to download: the Java edition of Minecraft or the Windows 10 (Bedrock) version?
If you’ve opted for Windows 10 gaming, you’ll be transported to a version-specific Minecraft page with a “ buy ” button. Click on ‘buy’ and then you will be taken to the Microsoft Store where you can purchase this version of the game and install it immediately.
Note: If this is the version of Windows 10 you were looking for, you are done now!
However, if you want to download Minecraft Java Edition, click on that version on the left, and when the next page loads, click buy.
4. Sign up for Minecraft.Net
While Windows 10 users are now done, there are still a few things to do to get the Java Edition back.
After clicking on “buy” we will need to create a new account with an email address and password. Generic passwords are not allowed, so no animal names and so on.
Once everything is filled out, click on “ subscribe ”, then open a new tab and open your inbox. You should have received a four letter code which you will now need to enter on the Minecraft website to continue.
Enter the code in the box, hit “verify” and you’re almost done.
5. It’s time to buy and install Minecraft
Now comes the purchase page. Enter your card details, verify the amount at the bottom, and when you’re happy click on the “buy” banner at the bottom.
Wait for the page to load and you will be dropped to the ‘complete purchase‘ screen. Click on ‘download for Windows’ and a file named ‘MinecraftInstaller.msi’ should be downloaded automatically.
Click on this file and the game will install. From there, just go to “next” until it’s installed and done.
A new window should open (it’s the Minecraft launcher), sign in with your email address and password then click on “ play ”. Now just sit back while Minecraft Java Edition downloads and you can dive into a world of endless fun.
